Vincent G Cox ASC - SASC - BSC (f)

Director of photography/director

Vincent Cox, international award-winning Director of Photography, has spent many years in the film industry. Starting as clapper/loader at Pinewood Studios, he was trained by the great British cinematographers, Geoff Unsworth, Wilkie Cooper, Lionel Baines and others, on such English classics as A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, FLOODS OF FEAR, SEA OF SAND, SUMMER HOLIDAY and the enormously successful TV series THE SAINT with Roger Moore. Subsequently filming in British and American studios and on remote locations around the world, Vincent became adept at resolving technical problems in order to achieve the best images. His nomination to membership of the famed American Society of Cinematographers was richly deserved recognition of a remarkable and imaginative lensing career. Returning to his homeland in the 1980s, Vincent now works mainly between South Africa and the United Kingdom. With the development of computer generated images, Vincent uses the new technologies to enhance his work on film. His hobbies include precision target shooting, aviation and restoring classic motor cars. He is an aircraft owner with a current private pilot licence.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

An international award-winning Director of Photography, Vincent has spent over thirty years in the film industry, starting as Clapper Boy on A NIGHT TO REMEMBER (the second Titanic epic) under Geoff Unsworth at Pinewood, working on British classics such as SEA OF SAND directed by Guy Green (GREAT EXPECTATIONS) under Wilkie Cooper, and subsequently Focus Puller on SUMMER HOLIDAY starring Cliff Richards, and the enormously successful TV series THE SAINT with Roger Moore, under Lionel Baines.

Working his way up through the ranks of the camera department in various parts of the world - the UK, Europe, North and South America and Africa, Australia, Hong Kong and Ceylon - Vincent's nomination to membership of the famed American Society of Cinematographers in 1977 was richly deserved recognition of a remarkable and imaginative lensing career throughout those years. Returning to his native South Africa in 1980, Vincent was a founder member of UniTal (Pty.) Ltd., a company formed to make film and TV product for the international market. During the 1980s he started directing; at first pictures for the local market, later utilising his technical knowledge on features for the international market.

Vincent's hobbies include precision target shooting, aviation - he holds a current private pilot's licence and owns a DHC Chipmunk-22, which is available for hire on film shoots and regularly spotted over the Johannesburg skyline - and restores classic motor cars. He is a black belt Judo, was previously a provincial gymnast and still runs a regular 10 miles weekly. He also adapts and designs equipment for specialised photographic purposes.
Vincent is creative and innovative by nature, and works calmly and quickly, if required, without losing picture quality. His credits are internationally recognised and attested to by his active membership of the American Society of Cinematographers (A.S.C.), whose quality requirements remain at the highest standards worldwide.
