About UniTal Films

ElephantsUniTal Films assists in structuring finance for projects suited to co-production and  advises on the funding and packaging of international projects and projects requiring specialist knowledge of Southern Africa, the UK and Europe.

Our relationships are tried and tested and we offer a first-class service to producers of feature films, television drama and documentaries.

In South Africa, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) continues as a major provider of finance for films.  In February 2008 the Department of Trade and Industry favourably revised its rebate scheme to encourage manufacture of films in South Africa.  There are individuals who are prepared to invest utilising tax allowances granted in terms of the provision of Section 24F of the Income Tax Act.

The only direct film investment available from the Government is via the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an organisation operating under the auspices of the Department of Arts and Culture.

South Africa has an excellent film infrastructure and highly qualified technicians.   It makes financial sense to use the favourable pound/ euro/ dollar to rand exchange rates.

Production costs in South Africa are considerably lower than similar costs in North America and Europe.   Our locations are beautiful, diverse and easily accessible.

UniTal Films ensures delivery  of great screen value to foreign and local film production.

In 2007 Gothica Film Productions was formed with  Nigel Wingrove and Steven McCreath of Redemption/Salvation Films, and long-time colleague, film director Christian Marnham.  Gothica has an output deal with Ryko/Warner Brothers for quality, lower budget genre movies. The first three pictures will be co-productions with Tomek Hryniszyn/ Blast Factor, Warsaw, and will be filmed on location in Poland.
